Content Repurposing: 5 Tips to Maximize your ROI

As digital content creators or film studios, we’ve all been at the point where we’ve been endlessly generating content. Slouch over your camera or laptop no more; here are five tips to upgrade and reuse old content.

1) Change up the format

This one pretty much guarantees you a return on the time you spend on digital content creation. Let’s say you have a blog post that you see is performing well, and your followers are obviously interested in the subject. You’ve already done the research and essentially already created a script for yourself. Use this as an opportunity to reach a wider audience by reformatting it into video content. You might still need to edit some of the material and maybe fluff up the video just a bit, but it gives you a pretty big sprint on producing content you know will perform well. You can also turn videos or presentations into podcast episodes, clip out the good audio bites and publish them on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon, etc.

2) Create a Series or Make a Guide

This is probably one of the easiest things you can do. Gather your best content on a single topic and compile it. If it’s blog posts, stack them up into a pdf or how-to guide online. If it’s video content, make a playlist or series on the subject. Just figure out what topic you want to use, find your best content, fill in the gaps, and poof, you have hours of more screen time coming your way. Be sure re-vamp any visuals to fit the new format.

3) Collab Videos? Guests Posts? Grab N’ GO!

Do you have some contributions on another website or channel? Why not repost it on your own platform? Sure, you might need to work out the copywriting kinks, but it’s essentially free content. As long as you can attribute the other creators and publishers, it’ll allow you to introduce work you’ve already done to your current audience. It’ll also give you more insight into what your followers want more of with a healthy bit of novelty.

4) Infographics! The Marketing Hack.

Ask a marketer what to do with all the data you’ve compiled, and this is what they’ll tell you. Infographics are a great way to visualize stats, research findings, and surveys. If you have analytics or data that’s just sitting in the junk drawer, make some cool visuals and publish them on your site. This kills two birds with one stone, as Infographics are a great way to generate quality links to your page and boost your brand higher on Google search results.

5) Updates. Your Excuse For a Re-do

Sometimes we realize we made a mistake on a piece of content. Maybe it’s not engaging enough, has incorrect information, or just wasn’t published at the right time. Use this as an excuse to dig it out of the mud and rinse it off. Make it more engaging, add any updates to the topic, and correct any mistakes. Plan out the best time to re-release it, and voila, you’ve just saved that old piece from decomposing in the graveyard, and no one is the wiser about how lazy you really are.

6) Bonus! The Bitter Truth.

You know your analytics best. You know what your audience likes. You know what content you should be making. Sometimes you need to lean into that. It can be tough letting go of content you’re enthusiastic about, but if no one cares, you probably don’t need to make it. Lean into what topics are performing well. Go more in-depth, create comprehensive guides, and add additional value to viewers. Don’t misunderstand; you should still be exploring new topics and ideas, just don’t throw yourself off this new-found cliff. Have a healthy bit of novelty, but focus mainly on what’s already working.

Remember, content repurposing isn’t a one-time endeavor but something you should constantly be doing, especially if you’ve made a lot of content over the years. Keep looking at your old content library, find topics that are trending again, and revamp the low-quality stuff. I hope this gets a few ideas bouncing around your head.
